Tomorrow, we are launching SatireDay with 15 terrific events all poking fun at life and the uncertain times we face in this mad, mad world. Belfast is noted for its sardonic wit so this theme fits much of our programme including the shows tomorrow featuring the Rubberbandits, Michelle & Arlene, Bill Hicks: Relentless, our Kate Bush dance parody and Alternative Bedtime Stories - to name but a few! Don't forget our conference in the Mac will also explore the local comedy scene including humour and conflict. So join us in having a laugh and satirising the powers that shape our world. with Evelyne Bourton

ACCIDENTAL THEATRE, 12-13 SHAFTESBURY SQUARE

When the lights go up at the Comedy Festival, a warrior woman in full kit – helmet, sword and buckler – launches into a Wagnerian classic at full throttle accompanied by thunderous notes from the piano. “But wait”, she says, “I’m having you on. Do you really want to be spat on in German while trapped in your seat?”

So starts the hilarious one-woman (plus a mute pianist) show that illustrates the wide appeal of a lyric soprano in many guises, moods and melodies. Diva Unleashed with Eve Bourton is a smash hit with audience members of all ages. Selections from opera, pop, Broadway, ballad – familiar music from many genres and ages – all delivered in the ‘voice of an angel’ with a compelling and humorous story line.

Eve Bourton has the unique ability to hold a room in the palm of her hand and her voice can soothe or blow out the windows, just like all great sopranos. Laughs are guaranteed as Eve has been described as a ‘team’ in one body, comprising Lucille Ball, Maria Callas and Nigella Lawson.

Don’t miss Eve’s Belfast debut!
